Lampeter Harness Racing Club was only established in 2009 and is the youngest of the Ceredigion clubs.
The first Lampeter HRC races were held in September 2009 and has already experienced plenty of action and great success in what is another beautiful setting in Ceredigion.
Lampeter races come towards the end of the racing season, and could be the reason why there are so many close finishes at this meeting with owners, trainers and drivers all wanting to ensure that they get a few more wins under their belt before the end of the season. Whilst all grades of racing are catered for at Lampeter Races, the highlights of the meeting are The Lloyds Chip Shop Lampeter Final and the Clwb Cardigan Bay Members' Race.
The inaugural Lloyds Chip Shop Lampeter Final was won by Tommy’s Bizzie. Owner/trainer Teifion Thomas and driver Huw Thomas are old friends and made sure that everything went well so that they could be the first to win the Lloyds Chip Shop Final and get their hands on The Mahogany Stables Cup and The Brian Thomas Cup. Huw Thomas caught the bug for Lampeter as he came back to drive the winner of the 2010 final on another Ammanford trained horse, Wellfield Lady Grey.
Lampeter Races is also the last opportunity of the season for Clwb Cardigan Bay Members to do battle in their own Members race. In 2009, the race and The John Howard Challenge Trophy was won by the day’s main sponsor, Stuart Lloyd, with his home trained Ceiron Eagle. In 2010 it was Gwyn Hughes and Gareth Evans’ homebred Gwyddil Halltheway who crossed the line for another popular local win.
